American Power Systems Expands High-Output Alternator Series

The company’s latest hardware builds on its original High Performance at Idle series, maintaining identical mechanical dimensions and weight while boosting power delivery across the RPM range. By engaging earlier in the engine cycle, these units reduce dependency on high-speed operation to maintain battery levels. This design shift supports improved reliability for critical onboard systems, such as ignition and lighting, in demanding field conditions.

Beyond power gains, the smaller, more efficient footprint of the J180 and pad mount models aims to lower the parasitic load on vehicle engines. For fleet operators, this efficiency translates into potential fuel savings and reduced mechanical strain. APS President and CEO Amy Lank noted that the expansion responds to evolving mobile power demands, where reliability in the field remains the primary objective.

Technical Specifications and Availability

The series is available in 12-, 24-, and 48-volt configurations, with output capacities ranging from 165 to 390 amps. The current lineup includes:

• 12v/290-amp and 12v/390-amp models
• 24v/165-amp and 24v/240-amp models
• 48v/170-amp and 48v/230-amp models

These alternators are currently available for domestic and international shipment. Since its founding in 2006, the Davenport-based manufacturer has supplied power conversion systems to various global clients, including the U.S. Department of Defense and the Australian Ministry of Defence, with its components installed on over 10,000 vehicles worldwide.
