The survey of 2,000 parents reveals a shift in how children discover and bond with pop culture figures. While movies and television remain primary entry points, gaming now ranks third in discovery methods, outpacing toys, books, and peer recommendations. This generation views interactivity as a fundamental requirement for entertainment, transforming how brands must approach character engagement.
Barbie and Bluey currently lead the rankings for girls, while Spider-Man and Sonic the Hedgehog dominate for boys. Notably, these preferences often bridge generational divides: 68.4% of parents report that their children enjoy at least some of the same characters they grew up with. Maud Cariddi, Global VP of Brand at Lingokids, noted that the transition from passive observer to active participant allows children to build personal memories with legacy characters. As platforms like Lingokids integrate these figures into playable activities, the line between consuming content and participating in it continues to dissolve.
