Eloxx Pharmaceuticals Secures $66 Million to Accelerate Kidney Drug Trials

With $66 million in fresh capital and a new listing on the Nasdaq, Arlington-based Eloxx Pharmaceuticals is moving to fast-track its clinical pipeline. The company confirmed it now holds enough liquidity to fund operations through mid-2028, clearing the runway for upcoming trials targeting rare genetic kidney disorders.

Eloxx Pharmaceuticals Secures $66 Million to Accelerate Kidney Drug Trials

The company’s shift follows a successful underwritten public offering that brought in $58.3 million in net proceeds. These funds are earmarked for the development of exaluren, a small-molecule candidate designed to treat nonsense mutation Alport syndrome and autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). CEO Sumit Aggarwal noted that the strengthened balance sheet eliminates debt and provides the necessary resources to initiate a Phase 2b trial for Alport syndrome this quarter.

Operational milestones have arrived alongside the financing. The European Commission recently granted orphan drug designation to exaluren for ADPKD, adding to existing U.S. regulatory support. While research and development expenses climbed to $2.8 million for the second quarter—up from $0.9 million a year prior—management maintains that the current cash position of $62 million is sufficient to reach key data readouts for both kidney programs through 2028. Beyond its internal pipeline, the firm continues to monitor its licensing agreement with Almirall, S.A., which holds the potential for future development milestones totaling $470 million.
