Shipley Donuts Sets Michigan Expansion With 15-Store Deal

Fifteen new locations are coming to Metro Detroit as Houston-based Shipley Donuts enters the Michigan market. A franchise agreement with local operators Hole Lotta Dough, LLC marks the brand’s latest regional push, with the first of the 15 shops scheduled to begin serving fresh, handmade donuts and kolaches by early 2027.

The expansion will target Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne counties, with plans to open three additional stores annually over the next four years. Hole Lotta Dough, now based in Auburn Hills, is led by operators with two decades of experience in the local convenience store industry and a personal history with the brand from their time in Houston.

Shipley, which celebrates its 90th anniversary this year, built its reputation on a 3 a.m. baking schedule and its "Hot Glazed Guarantee," which promises warm donuts until 10 a.m. The menu also features kolaches—savory breakfast pastries stuffed with sausage, egg, and cheese—alongside espresso-based drinks like the Classic Glazed Latte. This move into Michigan follows a similar three-unit deal in Cincinnati, signaling a broader strategy to solidify the company's presence across the Midwest.
