FirstEnergy Foundation Grants $100,000 to New Jersey Red Cross

The grant is split evenly between the Red Cross’s Northern New Jersey response efforts and the newly established Central New Jersey Disaster Response Command Center in Tinton Falls. These funds are earmarked to support immediate cleanup efforts, recovery assistance for displaced families, and long-term initiatives aimed at helping residents better prepare for future environmental emergencies.

This donation follows a massive restoration campaign by Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L). During the July 4th weekend, approximately 5,700 personnel worked to clear over 1,500 downed trees from power lines and address safety hazards that forced the temporary disconnection of dozens of homes and businesses. Doug Mokoid, president of FirstEnergy’s New Jersey operations, noted that the partnership reflects a commitment to community resilience that extends beyond basic electrical service, a sentiment echoed by regional Red Cross officials who emphasized the growing reliance on their services during increasingly frequent severe weather events.
