Whirlpool Charity Golf Event Nets $3 Million for Southwest Michigan

Over 800 golfers descended upon six Southwest Michigan courses on August 2 and 3, raising $3 million during the 23rd annual Whirlpool Community Charity Golf Event. The proceeds bolster local youth programs, pushing the tournament’s lifetime fundraising contribution to approximately $40 million since its inception.

Supported by a global network of Whirlpool Corporation suppliers and partners, the event functions as the primary financial engine for regional youth initiatives. The funds directly sustain organizations like the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Southwest Michigan, First Tee of Benton Harbor, and various local public school foundations. According to Pam Klyn, president of the Whirlpool Foundation, the initiative provides more than just capital; it ensures students have access to safe after-school environments and the educational resources necessary to develop essential life skills.

This year’s edition spanned six venues, including Point 'O Woods and the newly opened Wee Course, a pitch-and-putt layout designed by Colin Montgomerie. The weekend also featured a fireside chat with NFL Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith and Indiana University Athletic Director Scott Dolson, who focused their discussion on the values of collaboration and perseverance. The event continues to serve over 15,000 local youth annually, cementing its role as a cornerstone of corporate and community synergy in Berrien County.
