The infrastructure initiative seeks to bolster regional energy security while reducing dependence on volatile fuel imports from the Middle East. By integrating storage facilities with an extensive pipeline network, the Dangote Group plans to streamline the movement of refined products across southern Africa. This move aligns with the company’s broader strategy to dominate the continent's energy supply chain, following the successful launch of its 700,000-bpd refinery in Nigeria two years ago.
Beyond the Namibian investment, the group is aggressively expanding its footprint through a $660 million pipeline project connecting Djibouti and Ethiopia and proposed refinery developments in Kenya. Financial momentum remains high, as the recent IPO for a minority stake in the Nigerian refinery attracted investors from 120 countries. With the offering potentially raising $2.1 billion, capital is earmarked for a $14-billion expansion project, aiming to double the refinery’s processing capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2029.
