Wildlife SOS partners with McClure to evolve elephant rehabilitation

The partnership kicked off this week at the Elephant Conservation and Care Centre, where specialists began training sessions focused on advanced foot care, mobility, and socialization. Wildlife SOS, which has provided lifelong care to over 50 elephants since its founding, aims to eliminate the exploitation of begging elephants across India by 2030. CEO Kartick Satyanarayan noted that the collaboration is essential for addressing the complex medical needs of rescued animals, many of whom suffer from chronic injuries sustained in circuses and tourism.

Mike McClure and his consulting team are working directly with local veterinarians to implement positive reinforcement training and enrichment strategies. Beyond immediate care at the center, the expertise gained through this exchange will be integrated into the organization's mobile elephant clinics, extending support to underserved regions. Executive Director Nikki Sharp emphasized that the initiative is built on the premise that rescue is merely the first step, requiring a commitment to constant evolution in veterinary practice to ensure the highest possible quality of life for long-term residents.
