Bedrock and FMS Launch Autonomous Subsea Hub in Aberdeen

Under the terms of the agreement, Bedrock is stationing a fleet of its autonomous underwater vehicles directly at the FMS headquarters in Aberdeen. By decentralizing operations, the companies aim to bypass the logistical delays of shipping equipment to the United States for maintenance. FMS personnel will receive specialized training to handle data processing and vehicle upkeep locally, while providing the regional infrastructure, logistics, and marine consultancy required for large-scale offshore deployments.

The collaboration integrates Bedrock’s automated data acquisition with the established North Sea presence of FMS. For offshore energy operators, this shift is intended to provide subsea insights within hours rather than weeks. Matthew Tirman, CEO of Bedrock, noted that the move is designed to deliver high-quality data at a pace and cost structure the market currently lacks. Steven Brown, CEO of First Marine Solutions, emphasized that housing these systems in Aberdeen provides the flexibility needed to address the rigorous demands of the modern maritime sector.

This partnership arrives as the global ocean economy continues to expand, with OECD projections suggesting the sector could quadruple in size by 2050. By digitizing subsea surveys and reducing the need for manned vessels in hazardous environments, the two companies are positioning their combined services to capture a larger share of the infrastructure and energy markets.
