Greenland Energy Scales Back Winter Drilling Plans for Jameson Land

Greenland Energy Company has confirmed it will focus its upcoming 2026-2027 winter exploration campaign on a single well in the Jameson Land Basin. The decision, reached alongside joint venture partner 80 Mile Plc and local regulators, prioritizes operational safety and environmental rigor over an initial two-well target.

The shift in strategy does not stem from financial limitations, according to the Denver-based firm. Instead, management asserts that concentrating resources on one exploration well allows for better logistical management in the challenging Arctic environment. By focusing on a single site, the company aims to refine its operational procedures and incorporate technical lessons before attempting further expansion in the region.

While the drill bit has yet to touch the ground, preparations are moving forward. 80 Mile Plc continues to lead the permitting process, while Greenland Energy manages the technical planning, procurement, and supply chain logistics. Officials describe recent meetings with Greenlandic authorities as constructive, signaling steady progress toward the final approvals needed for the campaign. The Jameson Land Basin remains a primary focus for the company, which views the area as one of the last major underexplored conventional hydrocarbon frontiers in the Western world.
