The facility, unveiled on July 29, 2026, serves as a bridge between Perpetua Resources' Stibnite Gold Project in central Idaho and the specialized industrial needs of the U.S. military. By processing antimony samples directly from the Stibnite district, the project seeks to validate an end-to-end domestic supply chain that has remained largely absent since China ceased exporting the specific form of antimony trisulfide required for over 300 types of ammunition in 2021.
Perpetua Resources, which has secured over $87 million in federal funding since 2022, intends for this site to demonstrate the feasibility of large-scale domestic extraction and refinement. For the U.S. Army and the Idaho National Laboratory, the plant functions as both a technical laboratory and a scalable platform to mitigate reliance on China and Russia. The collaboration aims to train a specialized workforce while refining the technical capabilities necessary to restore commercial-scale production of critical minerals within American borders.
