Microsoft Faces Securities Class Action Following Copilot Revenue Miss

A 10% single-day stock plunge has triggered a securities fraud class action against Microsoft, with investors alleging the company misled the market about the stability and adoption rates of its Copilot AI. The lawsuit centers on claims that hidden functionality flaws dampened user growth, directly impacting Azure revenues.

Microsoft Faces Securities Class Action Following Copilot Revenue Miss

The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, alleges that Microsoft executives misrepresented the health of its AI-driven cloud ecosystem. While the company touted Copilot as a primary driver of Azure’s expansion, the lawsuit claims the platform suffered from deep-seated interoperability issues and confusing branding that hampered actual user retention.

The facade of consistent growth crumbled on January 28, 2026, when Microsoft disclosed that the number of premium Copilot customers reached only 15 million—a figure that fell significantly short of analyst projections. The subsequent market reaction wiped out 10% of the company's stock value, as shares fell from $481.63 to $433.50. Following this, reports in The Wall Street Journal corroborated claims of severe technical challenges plaguing the product. Investors now have until August 11, 2026, to petition the court for lead plaintiff status in the case, City of St. Clair Shores Police and Fire Retirement System, et al. v. Microsoft Corporation.
