Ankit Patel and the Vertical Integration of Bodal Chemicals

After completing his master’s degree in the United States, Ankit Patel returned to India in 2007 to join his family’s business. He transformed Bodal Chemicals from a textile-dependent enterprise into a diversified manufacturing powerhouse, now targeting significant revenue growth through aggressive expansion in Bharuch and strategic vertical integration.

Ankit Patel and the Vertical Integration of Bodal Chemicals

Patel spent his early years at the company immersing himself in core operations, a hands-on strategy that informed his vision for a fully integrated manufacturing model. By controlling the entire production value chain, the firm has minimized its reliance on external sourcing, achieving a level of integration at its Vadodara facility that remains unmatched by domestic competitors. This operational control has allowed the company to navigate global supply chain disruptions with greater stability than its peers.

Diversification has been central to Patel’s tenure, as he moved the company away from its historical reliance on the cyclical textile industry, which previously accounted for up to 80 percent of revenue. The portfolio now spans pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and water treatment, anchored by a new 80-hectare site in the Bharuch manufacturing hub. Patel maintains that this site provides the necessary infrastructure for the company’s next decade of scaling.

Financial discipline remains a hallmark of his leadership, even as he targets ambitious revenue milestones of over US$314 million within five years and US$471 million within a decade. Patel attributes this trajectory to the broader "Make in India" industrial momentum, positioning his firm to capitalize on the country's shifting economic landscape. His approach to growth relies on long-term supplier partnerships, such as those with Camy Plants, prioritizing reliability and mutual value over short-term cost-cutting.
