The aviation industry is preparing for a significant transformation, with Boeing forecasting a requirement for 44,000 new aircraft through 2045. Approximately half of these deliveries are intended to replace aging, less efficient models, reflecting a broader industry pivot toward sustainability. Brad McMullen, Boeing’s senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing, noted that travel demand remains resilient as airlines adapt to shifting geopolitical conditions and changing passenger preferences.
Growth is expected to be most pronounced in transitioning and emerging markets, which will account for 55% of all new deliveries. Meanwhile, airlines continue to expand their networks, having added 5,500 new airport pairs since 2015. This expansion emphasizes point-to-point travel and a diversifying service landscape, ranging from premium offerings in North America and Northeast Asia to low-cost expansion in Latin America and Southeast Asia. Air cargo, too, remains a critical driver, with traffic projected to grow at an annual rate of 3.7%, outpacing broader economic trends.
