The transition brings ophthalmology imaging under the hospital’s broader Sectra One deployment, allowing doctors to view studies from different specialties side-by-side. According to Dr. Abiodun Omoloja, the hospital's Chief Medical Information Officer, this capability is vital for conditions like pediatric oncology, where cross-specialty imaging is necessary to make informed care decisions without the friction of switching between disparate systems.
Previously, ophthalmology departments relied on siloed storage, often keeping images trapped on individual cameras or isolated servers. With this new integration, the hospital expects to process approximately 2,000 ophthalmology exams annually. The move follows a two-and-a-half-year contract between the hospital and the Swedish firm Sectra, representing a shift toward a centralized imaging strategy that reduces administrative overhead for IT departments while streamlining clinical workflows.
