Lawsuit Filed Against NYPD After Manhattan Pedestrian Struck

A 38-year-old pedestrian has launched a personal injury lawsuit against the City of New York following a July 2024 collision that left him with catastrophic orthopedic injuries. Filed by the firm Greenstein & Pittari, LLP, the case highlights the complex legal hurdles inherent in litigation against municipal entities.

The plaintiff, struck by an NYPD vehicle, required a series of emergency surgeries and prolonged hospitalization due to the severity of the impact. Subsequent complications from these procedures necessitated a fourth surgery, marking a long and difficult path to recovery. The lawsuit, currently pending in the Supreme Court of the State of New York under Index No. 150215/2025, seeks compensation for medical expenses, loss of earning capacity, and permanent disability.

Robert Greenstein, founding partner of the firm, emphasized that claims involving police vehicles operate under specialized procedural rules and abbreviated statutory deadlines. These municipal requirements distinguish the case from standard traffic accident litigation. While New York City has seen a 42 percent decline in pedestrian fatalities since the implementation of Vision Zero in 2014, the case underscores the persistent danger posed by municipal vehicle collisions on city streets.
