As the country maintains some of the world’s fastest real GDP growth, the festival highlights a strategic shift toward the 'Orange Economy.' Hon. Susan Rodrigues, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, emphasized that the government is prioritizing the infrastructure necessary for designers to compete on a global stage. The festival acts as more than a runway exhibition; it serves as a business incubator where over 30 designers receive training in export readiness, branding, and sustainable construction.
Festival director Keisha Edwards noted that the initiative aims to institutionalize support for local talent. The program features three distinct runway themes: the historical 'Golden Threads of Time,' the heritage-focused 'Ancestral Threads,' and the technology-driven 'Fashion Meets Innovation.' The event concludes with the ORIGINS Awards, which recognize excellence across categories ranging from emerging design to storytelling and modeling. Through mentorship and market access, the festival seeks to ensure the next generation of Guyanese creatives inherits a robust, professionalized ecosystem.
