Japanese Skaters Dominate Rockstar Energy Open in Portland

Toa Sasaki and Mizuho Hasegawa led a dominant performance for Monster Energy at the 2026 Rockstar Energy Open, securing top podium spots at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. The three-day competition, held August 14–16, drew global talent to the Willamette River for a series of high-stakes street and park events.

Toa Sasaki, the 19-year-old from Mie, Japan, secured first place in the Men’s Skateboard Street final with a technical run that earned 89.33 points. His performance, which included a Caballerial backside lipslide and a nollie crooked grind, solidified his standing following a silver-medal finish at X Games New Orleans earlier this year.

Mizuho Hasegawa continued her streak in the Women’s Skateboard Park event, capturing her third consecutive RSEO title. The 15-year-old phenom, who recently became the most decorated female athlete in Summer X Games history, tallied 83.33 points with a run featuring a backside 540 melon. Her compatriot, 19-year-old Asahi Kaihara, joined her on the podium in third place after a creative run through the butterfly-shaped bowl.

The weekend also saw success for other team riders. Monster Army’s Egoitz Bijueska, the reigning World Champion, took third in Men’s Skateboard Park during his event debut. Tucson-based Liam Pace rounded out the team’s results by winning the Dickies Park Best Trick Jam with a technical late shove-it over the course’s main gap.
