Athens Bar Line Claims Top Spot in Inaugural Europe’s 50 Best Rankings

The rankings, which span 22 cities across the region, highlight the evolution of European mixology, with Athens claiming both the first and second positions. Line, founded by bartenders Vasilis Kyritsis and Nikos Bakoulis, earned the top accolade for its innovative fermentation-led approach, where the team produces house-made fruit wines and reworks byproducts into a circular menu of cocktails and food. The venue’s success reflects a broader trend of sustainability and technical precision currently defining the city’s nightlife.

While Athens captured the spotlight, London maintained its status as a major cocktail capital with seven featured venues, including the Connaught Bar at number 10 and the debutant Waltz at number 23, which claimed the Three Cents Best New Opening Award. The list also recognized individual excellence, awarding the Roku Industry Icon title to Salvatore Calabrese, while Paris-based De Vie received the Ketel One Sustainable Bar Award. The rankings were determined by a panel of over 300 industry experts, ensuring the list reflects a diverse and professional consensus on the continent’s most compelling drinking destinations.
