The narrative began as a college project in 1999 at Fairleigh Dickinson University, only to be shelved for years. Sabino eventually retrieved the manuscript from atop his refrigerator during the pandemic, completing the work within a year. By weaving his own experiences into the fictional life of Colozzo, the author attempts to reconcile the nostalgic aesthetics of the 1980s and 90s with the stark, modern realities of mental health struggles.
Sabino describes the project as a study in resilience rather than a clinical account. The story tackles the mechanics of ADHD and the weight of chemical dependency through a lens of dark humor and imagination. For the author, who resides at the Jersey Shore with his family, the release is an invitation for those struggling with similar cycles of behavior to seek assistance. Time Capsules is currently available through Archway Publishing, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble.
