The newly issued patent, number 10-2960889, covers the proprietary technology exclusively licensed from the Cleveland Clinic. It targets the prevention and treatment of breast cancer by immunizing the body against α-lactalbumin, a protein typically associated with lactation that appears aberrantly in specific tumor types. By focusing on these so-called retired proteins, the vaccine aims to trigger an immune response that prevents tumor growth without damaging healthy tissue.
Dr. Amit Kumar, Chairman and CEO of Anixa, noted that this legal milestone supports the company’s strategy to secure international partnerships for commercialization. The vaccine recently completed a Phase 1 clinical trial at the Cleveland Clinic, where it demonstrated a favorable safety profile and generated immune responses in 74% of participants. While breast cancer remains the most diagnosed cancer globally, no preventive vaccine is currently approved for clinical use, a gap Anixa intends to bridge as it moves forward with further development.
