The agreement covers not only the delivery of the vessels but also includes a comprehensive weapons package, training, and long-term support infrastructure. Saab expects to roll out the submarines continuously, with final delivery scheduled for 2038. To ensure operational readiness, the company will establish local maintenance and repair facilities in Poland, partnering with the domestic industry to foster strategic autonomy.
Designed specifically for the challenging conditions of the Baltic, the A26 submarine emphasizes silence and covert operation. Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab, noted that the vessels are intended to address Poland’s current and future defense requirements. As a temporary bridge until the new fleet is active, Poland will operate the Swedish submarine HMS Södermanland under a separate bilateral arrangement.
