The expansion will leverage the 637-meter elevation drop between the Tyssevatn reservoir and Storfjorden. By installing two 75 MW Pelton turbines, the site will reach a total capacity of 150 MW, significantly outpacing the 64 MW output of the existing plant, which will be modernized and retained for additional power. Aker Solutions is tasked with delivering the full suite of electromechanical components, including generators, control systems, transformers, and inlet pipes.
Jo Kjetil Krabbe, Executive Vice President of Power Solutions at Aker Solutions, noted that the collaborative approach with partners like Norconsult and Aurstad Tunnel could establish a new industry standard. The project, which has already commenced, is slated for completion in 2030. Aker Solutions values the contract between NOK 0.5 billion and NOK 1.5 billion, with the order set to be booked in the second quarter of 2026.
