SoundWise Debuts Free Browser-Based AI Transcription

SoundWise has launched a browser-based transcription platform offering unlimited speech-to-text conversion without per-minute fees. By utilizing an in-browser processing model, the tool allows users to transcribe audio and video files locally in over 98 languages, aiming to eliminate the costs typically associated with manual or subscription-based services.

The platform functions through a dual-engine architecture designed to balance privacy with performance. The free tier relies on local device processing, ensuring sensitive recordings remain on the user's machine, which appeals to legal professionals and researchers. For those requiring higher throughput, the company introduced SoundWise Pro, a cloud-based tier that utilizes dedicated GPUs to transcribe one hour of audio in roughly 30 seconds.

CEO Eric stated that the service intends to simplify post-production workflows, noting that audio and video should be as easily searchable and editable as standard text documents. The system supports a wide range of media formats, including MP3, WAV, FLAC, and common video containers like MP4 and MKV, while providing automatic speaker identification and timestamping to assist in navigating long files. While the browser-based version is free, the Pro subscription is priced at $20 monthly or $120 annually, offering additional features such as cloud storage and forthcoming subtitle export capabilities.
