VEVOR and The Restoration Team Renovate Historic Settegast Home

After Hurricane Beryl exacerbated years of decay in his Settegast residence, lifelong Houston resident William Pierre received a critical lifeline. A team of twenty volunteers, mobilized by VEVOR and The Restoration Team, spent three days performing structural repairs and modernizing the home to ensure the single father could remain in his community.

The project represents the inaugural effort under VEVOR’s "Upgrade Next Door" initiative, a program designed to supply tools and logistical support to underserved households. Over 270 labor hours were dedicated to the site, resulting in a full bathroom renovation featuring a new walk-in shower and significant upgrades to the living quarters. VEVOR provided specialized equipment, including drywall sanders and industrial vacuums, to facilitate the work while minimizing construction debris.

For Pierre, who has occupied the property since 1999, the intervention replaces the anxiety of structural instability with a sense of security. Trevor Barnett, Executive Director of The Restoration Team, noted that the partnership allows for greater efficiency in their mission, which has now assisted 500 homes across the region. While the immediate renovation is complete, additional work is scheduled to continue on the remaining sections of the house, with the family expected to return in one month. The local VEVOR store on FM 1960 Rd W served as the central hub for the effort, coordinating volunteer logistics and equipment staging.
