Qatar Resumes Crude Tenders Outside Strait of Hormuz

QatarEnergy has initiated tenders for July and August crude loadings, signaling a shift in regional export logistics since the conflict began on February 28. By utilizing ship-to-ship transfers between Fujairah and Sohar, the state firm is bypassing the Strait of Hormuz, reflecting a cautious confidence in maintaining outbound supply routes.

The tender, which remains open until June 29, covers Marine Qatar, Marine Land, and al-Shaheen crude grades. This move follows a recent agreement to supply a cargo of Al-Shaheen crude to a Taiwanese refiner. The decision to facilitate transfers in the waters between the United Arab Emirates and Oman suggests that Qatar anticipates a window for vessels to clear the chokepoint safely in the coming weeks.

This development aligns with broader efforts by Gulf producers to normalize export volumes. Abu Dhabi’s ADNOC has reportedly sold over 60 million barrels via similar ship-to-ship transfers, while Kuwait has resumed naphtha tenders from its Persian Gulf ports. The cumulative increase in oil flowing toward international markets has exerted downward pressure on global prices, effectively reversing the volatility seen at the onset of the war.
