The report, conducted in partnership with ListenLabs, surveyed 350 small business owners and found that despite widespread adoption, self-reported mastery remains low. On a scale of one to ten, owners rate their AI effectiveness at an average of 5.3, with only one in five feeling highly confident in their deployment. This gap translates directly into financial outcomes: those who save 16 or more hours weekly through automation are 3.7 times more likely to report revenue growth than those saving only a few hours.
Trust remains a significant hurdle. Only 6% of respondents fully trust AI to represent their brand voice, keeping much of the technology relegated to secondary tasks. Furthermore, a clear education gap exists regarding the future of discovery; nearly 90% of owners have yet to optimize their websites for AI-driven search, and 22% were unaware of the concept until the study. As Bluehost CEO Sachin Puri noted, the challenge lies in moving beyond general tools toward purpose-built solutions that remove the guesswork from daily business operations. With only 16% of owners having deployed AI agents, the industry is bracing for a shift where the ability to automate complex workflows—such as lead capture and SEO management—will likely define the next tier of competitive small businesses.
