South Australia Secures First Michelin Guide Selection

South Australia has officially landed on the global culinary map with the debut of the 2027 MICHELIN Guide, the first expansion of its kind into the country. Inspectors identified 77 establishments across the region, celebrating a distinct fusion of native ingredients and multicultural influences that define the local dining scene.

The inaugural list is anchored by Magill Estate Restaurant in Adelaide, which secured Two MICHELIN Stars under the direction of Chef Scott Huggins. Ten additional venues earned One MICHELIN Star, including arkhé, Hentley Farm, and Maxwell Restaurant. Beyond the stars, the guide recognized 16 venues with a Bib Gourmand for high-quality, value-driven dining, while 50 others received a MICHELIN Selected designation.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, noted that inspectors were struck by the region's culinary diversity. European, Southeast Asian, and Japanese traditions blend with native ingredients like quandong and lemon myrtle, creating a food culture that remains technically refined yet unburdened by rigid formality. The selection spans from Adelaide’s urban dining rooms to the winery-based establishments of the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale.

Individual talent was also highlighted through three special awards. Melissa Pisanelli of Allegra Dining Room received the Service Award, while Shakaan Abillion of Shōbōsho was honored as the Young Chef. The Sommelier Award was presented to Maxime Martin from Hardy's Verandah. The full list is now accessible via the official MICHELIN Guide website and mobile application.
