NueCell Bio will integrate its biology-led development framework into projects supported by CIRM, which has managed $8.5 billion in funding since 2004. By focusing on the critical translational phase—where laboratory findings are adapted for GMP-ready manufacturing—the company seeks to solve common bottlenecks in cell and gene therapy development. Their 26,300-square-foot Sorrento Valley facility will serve as a hub for refining processes for immune, stem, and pluripotent cell therapies.
Michael Wourms, CEO of NueCell Bio, noted that the success of modern therapies hinges on decisions made long before formal manufacturing begins. The company utilizes its proprietary NueStack platform to provide a repeatable foundation for cell line selection, banking, and analytics. Because NueCell Bio does not operate its own downstream commercial manufacturing plants, it provides strategic guidance without the conflicts of interest often found in traditional contract development organizations.
