Operating out of the Alhambra Valley Retreat in the San Francisco Bay Area, Palmer focuses on relapse prevention and self-empowerment. His methodology is rooted in the Four Agreements, a philosophy he detailed in his 2022 book, Finishing Stronger. By integrating unconventional practices like Tai Chi and acupuncture—the latter provided by his daughter, Dr. Le Jiang—he seeks to offer a comprehensive path to recovery beyond traditional clinical settings.
His current work follows a significant tenure at Options Recovery Services in Berkeley, where he spent six years assisting parolees. This commitment to rehabilitation also saw him conducting smoking cessation programs at the Alameda County Jail in 2011. Before pivoting to behavioral health, Palmer spent decades as a road manager for high-profile musicians, including Quincy Jones and Steve Miller. His diverse background and success in the field have earned him the International Impact Book Award and features in major media outlets, cementing his role as a prominent advocate in California’s recovery community.
