The partnership, unveiled at the AUSA 2026 conference in Washington, marks a shift in PDW’s industrial strategy. By adopting the Kurbas camera—currently deployed by over 200 drone manufacturers on the Ukrainian front lines—PDW intends to adapt combat-proven reconnaissance technology for U.S. and allied defense requirements. The collaboration focuses on qualifying a U.S.-compliant version of the Kurbas 640 series for mass production.
Beyond assembly, the agreement supports Project Foundation, a joint initiative to produce uncooled long-wave infrared sensors, or microbolometers, domestically. This move aligns with PDW’s broader objective of securing critical component supply chains, a goal bolstered by a conditional $820 million loan commitment from the Department of War’s Office of Strategic Capital. According to PDW CEO James Slider, the project transforms frontline battlefield lessons into sustainable industrial capacity. Yaroslav Azhnyuk, CEO of The Fourth Law, noted that the initiative addresses a primary vulnerability in drone manufacturing: reliance on externally controlled components. Pending final regulatory agreements, the companies expect these efforts to strengthen the domestic manufacturing base for autonomous systems.
