The acquisition brings Blackford’s infrastructure—which connects over 130 AI applications from 45 vendors—into the Sopris ecosystem. Founded in 2010, the company established the industry’s first AI orchestration platform in 2016, providing radiology departments with a vendor-neutral interface to manage imaging workflows at scale. Blackford will maintain its legal identity and existing operations in Scotland and the United States, ensuring continuity for its current hospital and original equipment manufacturer partners.
By merging these capabilities with Azra AI, Sopris Capital aims to capture data at the earliest stages of the patient journey. Abinav Sankar, Managing Partner at Sopris, noted that the move provides a critical foothold at the moment an image is captured. James Holroyd, Managing Director of Blackford, stated that the partnership will accelerate the company’s growth and simplify the adoption of imaging AI for clinical users. The deal marks a significant expansion of the firm’s healthcare technology holdings, which emphasize longitudinal, AI-enabled care.
