Amazon Drivers at Queens Facility Join Teamsters Union

Drivers at the DBK1 facility in Woodside, Queens, have officially organized with Teamsters Local 804, marking a fresh escalation in the nationwide labor campaign against the e-retail giant. This expansion bolsters a workforce already pushing for standardized pay, improved health benefits, and greater job security across Amazon's logistics network.

Amazon Drivers at Queens Facility Join Teamsters Union

The DBK1 cohort joins hundreds of colleagues who unionized last year, specifically targeting Amazon’s third-party Delivery Service Partner (DSP) model. Workers and organizers argue this structure is designed to shield the company from legal liability and labor accountability. By joining the Teamsters, these drivers are sharpening their leverage to challenge a system they claim facilitates systemic worker exploitation.

This organizing push coincides with a major legislative battle in New York City. The local Teamsters are spearheading the Delivery Protection Act, a bill currently backed by a supermajority of the City Council and the mayoral administration. The proposed law aims to outlaw captive subcontracting, effectively forcing delivery companies to employ their drivers directly. LeAnn Rivera, a newly unionized driver at DBK1, noted that the company's visible opposition to the legislation served as a catalyst for her colleagues to seek collective representation. The Teamsters Amazon National Negotiating Committee has now extended picket lines at the Woodside site, demanding that Amazon cease unfair labor practices and begin formal contract negotiations for more than 10,000 organized workers nationwide.
