Parallel Systems Secures $100 Million to Scale Autonomous Freight Rail

With $100 million in fresh capital, Los Angeles-based Parallel Systems is shifting from prototype testing to full commercial deployment. The Series C round, led by AVP, positions the battery-electric rail startup to ramp up production of its Panther vehicle and expand its autonomous freight technology into international markets.

Parallel Systems Secures $100 Million to Scale Autonomous Freight Rail

The capital injection brings the company’s total funding to over $200 million, marking a transition point for a firm founded in 2020 by former SpaceX engineer Matt Soule. Parallel Systems aims to capture a portion of the $1 trillion surface freight market by automating short-haul routes under 500 miles, a segment currently dominated by trucking but significantly underutilized by traditional rail networks.

Following successful pilot operations in Georgia alongside short-line operator Genesee & Wyoming, the company has secured contracts with major railroads to deploy its autonomous delivery system. These operations, currently functioning under Federal Railroad Administration supervision, combine advanced hardware and software to provide shippers with the cost efficiencies of rail alongside the flexibility typically associated with road transport. According to Executive Chairman Arun Gupta, the focus has shifted from proving the technology's viability to scaling operations for global demand.
