InflammaSense Joins $38 Million ARPA-H Project to Combat Sepsis

La Jolla-based InflammaSense has secured a role in the ARPA-H CIRCLE program, receiving a share of up to $38 million to refine how clinicians manage critical illness. Working alongside the University of Vermont, the firm will deploy its wearable technology to monitor immune dysregulation in patients facing life-threatening conditions.

InflammaSense Joins $38 Million ARPA-H Project to Combat Sepsis

The ARPA-H initiative, known as the Critical Illness Immunological Reprogramming and Control Point Learning Engine, seeks to curb the organ failure often triggered by sepsis. By utilizing a measure-model-modulate framework, the program aims to identify immune control points before a patient's condition deteriorates. InflammaSense will contribute to this effort by tracking autonomic and inflammatory signatures in up to 200 critically ill patients across three clinical sites.

To capture this data, the company will utilize its VITAL x-patch, a non-invasive wearable sensor. This hardware feeds into the Autonomic Research Core (ARC) classifier, which helps build digital-twin models of patient immune trajectories. Imanuel Lerman, CEO and founder of InflammaSense, noted that the program provides a critical pathway to validate autonomic neurography at scale. The technology is designed to detect hyperimmune or immunoparalysis states that currently remain difficult to track in real time, potentially providing clinicians with a vital window to intervene before systemic failure occurs.
