McDonald’s Turns Pickle Brine Into Marathon Fuel in Chicago

Chicago marathoners facing mid-race cramps may soon find relief in an unexpected source: the brine from a McDonald’s pickle. From October 9 through October 11, the fast-food giant is distributing "Pickle Boost"—bottled pickle juice—at key locations across the city to support athletes during one of the nation's premier racing weekends.

The initiative targets the intersection of sports performance and brand loyalty, capitalizing on the anecdotal popularity of pickle juice as a remedy for exercise-induced cramping. McDonald’s will debut the product on Friday, October 9, at the Lakefront Trail near 2401 N Lake Shore Drive, where runners can access samples from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. CT.

On race day, Sunday, October 11, the company will transition to a series of "Pickle Boost Pit Stops." Between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. CT, both participants and spectators can visit five specific McDonald’s locations to receive two complimentary bottles. The participating restaurants include 2635 N Clark St, 1563 N Wells St, 600 N Clark St, 203 N LaSalle St, and 207 E 35th St. Supplies are limited, and the distribution is intended to serve as a high-sodium recovery aid for those navigating the marathon route.
