Once Upon a Farm Targets Active Kids With Organic Electrolyte Pouches

Nearly 50% of U.S. parents seek electrolyte-enhanced snacks for children aged 6 to 12, prompting Berkeley-based Once Upon a Farm to launch a new line of organic, fruit-and-veggie purée pouches. The brand aims to bridge the gap between traditional hydration drinks and nutrient-dense, real-food snacks for school-aged children.

The new Electrolyte Blends use coconut water, sea salt, and produce to provide natural minerals without the added sugars found in many sports drinks. Available in Strawberry Kiwi, Apple Berry Punch, and Guava Strawberry, the pouches are cold-pressure processed to maintain freshness. Cassandra Curtis, the company’s co-founder and chief innovation officer, noted that the product line addresses a specific void for school-age children who require more than simple water during active days but do not need the concentrated formulas marketed to professional athletes.

Pediatric sports dietitian Taylor Morrison emphasized that the ingredient selection focuses on natural replenishment rather than medical-grade rehydration. The products are currently rolling out to select retailers nationwide and the company’s website, with the Guava Strawberry flavor slated for a Whole Foods Market exclusive launch in April 2027. This expansion marks a strategic shift for the brand, which is moving beyond its established baby food roots to capture the "big kid" market segment.
