Blue Buffalo Donates 86,000 Pounds of Food to Holiday Rescue Efforts

As animal shelters face a seasonal surge in population alongside rising medical costs, pet food brand Blue Buffalo has launched its 27th annual Home 4 the Holidays campaign by donating 86,000 pounds of food to rescue organizations across San Diego and New York City.

The massive donation serves as a vital resource for roughly 40 local welfare groups, providing relief to facilities currently grappling with overcrowding and dwindling supply budgets. Since 2013, the partnership between Blue Buffalo and the Helen Woodward Animal Center has focused on bridging the gap between available resources and the growing number of hungry animals waiting for permanent homes. Over the last nine years, the initiative has supplied more than 800,000 pounds of food to shelters on both coasts.

Beyond immediate nutritional support, the campaign serves as a public call to action, urging families to prioritize adoption over purchasing from breeders during the winter months. Since its inception in 1999, the Home 4 the Holidays movement has grown to include 4,000 rescue organizations globally, facilitating the adoption of more than 22 million pets. To further incentivize rescue efforts, the Helen Woodward Animal Center is offering a $25,000 grant to the participating organization that executes the most creative promotional campaign to drive local adoptions this season.
