AIChE Names 16 Leaders for 2026 Institute and Board Awards

Sixteen innovators from academia and industry will receive the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ highest honors this November. The recipients, selected for their contributions to research, education, and industrial practice, are set to be recognized at the organization's annual meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from November 8 to 12.

AIChE Names 16 Leaders for 2026 Institute and Board Awards

The honorees represent a cross-section of the field, ranging from academic pioneers to industrial leaders. Nicholas Peppas of the University of Texas at Austin will receive the F. J. and Dorothy Van Antwerpen Award for Service to AIChE, while Liang-Shih Fan from The Ohio State University is slated for the Founders Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Chemical Engineering.

Industrial contributions are also highlighted, with Kenneth Hanley of 3M receiving the Industry Leadership Award and Kevin Seibert of Eli Lilly and Company earning the Industrial Research and Development Award. Other notable recipients include Norma Alcantar of the University of South Florida, who will be honored with the Margaret Hutchinson Rousseau Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement by a Woman Chemical Engineer, and Samir Mitragotri of Harvard University, recognized with the Alpha Chi Sigma Award for Chemical Engineering Research.

Additional awardees include Rong Yang (Cornell), M. Scott Shell (UC Santa Barbara), Theresa Whiting (3M), Ruilan Guo (University of Notre Dame), Alon McCormick (University of Minnesota), Richard Flagan (Caltech), Scott J. Herrmann (Qnity Electronics), Vemuri Balakotaiah (University of Houston), Doraiswami Ramkrishna (Purdue), and Dionisios Vlachos (University of Delaware). AIChE President Anne O'Neal noted that these individuals reflect the ingenuity currently driving the profession forward.
