Stena RoRo Commissions Next-Generation E-Flexer Ferries

The new vessels, destined for the Gothenburg-Frederikshavn route, feature a diesel-electric setup with dedicated capacity for up to 85 MWh of batteries. While the ships will initially utilize modern engines capable of running on biodiesel or methanol, the architecture allows for the progressive installation of battery packs as technology advances and regulatory requirements evolve. Each vessel will measure 214 meters in length and accommodate 1,400 passengers alongside 2,720 lane meters of freight.

Per Westling, CEO of Stena RoRo, emphasized that the design builds on the existing 17-ship E-Flexer series while adding a dimension of fossil-free transport. This order cements a partnership that has seen 21 vessels ordered from the CMI Weihai facility since 2016. The shipyard has maintained a consistent delivery schedule for the E-Flexer class, a factor Westling credits for the company's ability to provide reliable, scalable transport solutions to both internal and external operators.
