MSA Safety Debuts G1 City Edition SCBA with Integrated Beacon Tech

The new G1 City Edition incorporates LUNAR Beacon technology directly into the SCBA power module. When paired with a handheld LUNAR device, the system provides directional data that helps rescue teams navigate toward a colleague in alarm status. This integration aims to streamline accountability and speed up intervention times in zero-visibility conditions.

Beyond connectivity, the apparatus targets operator fatigue. By implementing a lightweight cylinder retention system and a low-profile swiveling lumbar pad, the design sheds up to a half-pound compared to previous models. These physical adjustments, coupled with thicker regulator controls and refined shoulder pads, reflect years of direct feedback from field crews requiring better ergonomics during extended operations.

Steve Blanco, President and CEO of MSA Safety, noted that the ability to locate personnel remains a top priority for fire departments. The unit is compliant with the 2025 NFPA 1970 standard and remains compatible with the broader FireGrid ecosystem, allowing for real-time monitoring of air pressure and location data where network connectivity permits.
