Fairmont Schools Launches Guidance Series for South Orange County Families

The program, titled Little Warriors: Play, Learn & Grow, addresses the practical challenges of raising young children, from determining age-appropriate chores to managing emotional milestones. Head of School Rebecca Lugo noted that while prenatal support is abundant, resources for the subsequent years of rapid growth are often sparse. The series aims to provide a reliable forum where parents can consult with educators and specialists to gain clarity on what to expect as their children transition toward preschool and kindergarten.

Led by a team including Lugo, Preschool Director Juanita Espinoza, and licensed therapist Jill Thomas, the workshops cover topics such as fostering self-reliance, understanding developmental stages, and navigating social challenges like sharing and frustration. While parents attend these sessions, children participate in hands-on activities ranging from STEAM projects to outdoor exploration, mirroring the school's interactive learning philosophy. By encouraging children to handle small tasks—such as tidying up or communicating needs—the organizers hope to shift the parental perspective from hovering to fostering independence.
