Two Decades of Inclusive Baseball: Miracle League Honors 27 Originals

What began in 2006 with just over 100 participants has expanded into a regional fixture serving more than 650 players each season across Cary, Raleigh, and Durham. The anniversary event, held at the organization's original site at Adams Elementary School, highlighted the lasting impact of the league’s philosophy: ensuring every individual, regardless of disability, has the opportunity to play.

Executive Director Benjy Capps noted that the longevity of these participants reflects the core of the league’s mission. For veterans like coach Frank B. Yarborough, the experience has transcended the game itself. Yarborough, who has coached alongside his son Jack for the full 20-year duration, described the league as a transformative blessing that enriches the lives of families and volunteers alike.

To commemorate the anniversary, the organization recognized the following individuals for their two decades of commitment:

Coaches: Jay Minnick, Zoë Playa, Joe Porrazzo, Stara Porrazzo, and Frank Yarborough.

Players: Parks Boyce, Bryson Dew, Jimmie Esposito, Jackson Fischler, Hayden Goetz, Sam Hodgin, Lindsay Holcombe, Andrew Jevicky, Jacob Jones, Jonathan Minnick, Drew Morrison, Danny Nelson, Darius Newborn, Tristan Pack, Mitchell Price, Wesley Quinn, Melanie Tutka, Seth Walter, Joshua Werner, Ben Willis, Jack Yarborough, and Quinn Yaudes.

The celebration serves as a centerpiece for the league’s yearlong theme, "This Is What a Dream Looks Like!" which recognizes the donors, volunteers, and community partners who sustained the organization since its inception.
