Softcat Acquires GDT to Establish Transatlantic IT Footprint

UK-based IT provider Softcat has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Dallas-headquartered GDT, a move designed to create a unified platform spanning North American and European markets. The deal marks a strategic expansion for Softcat, which aims to leverage GDT’s networking expertise to meet growing global client demands.

GDT will continue to operate under its current name as a wholly owned subsidiary of Softcat, maintaining its existing leadership team and workforce. For Softcat, the acquisition serves as the conclusion of a multi-year effort to secure a North American partner with the technical depth and cultural alignment necessary to support its international growth strategy. Graham Charlton, Softcat’s CEO, noted that the company’s clients have increasingly requested support beyond the UK and Ireland, specifically within the United States.

The combined organization plans to integrate their respective service portfolios, spanning everything from desktop support to complex data center and AI-ready infrastructure. A significant part of this transition includes increased investment in GDT’s Global Operations Center in Bangalore, which will be expanded to provide around-the-clock engineering support. According to GDT CEO Shawn O'Grady, the integration offers a broader set of resources while preserving the high-touch, customer-first service model that defined GDT’s past 30 years in business. The transaction is slated to close by the end of the first quarter of 2027, pending standard regulatory approvals.
