Maryland American Water Awards $50,000 for STEM and Career Programs

The selected organizations include Nature Worx Inc., the Evergreen Heritage Center, and the robotics-focused group REACT. The Public Library Association of Annapolis and the Harford County Public Library Foundation also received awards to expand their educational outreach. These funds are designed to support financial literacy, career exploration, and high-quality learning environments.

Phil Hosmer, executive director of Nature Worx, noted that the grant will facilitate hands-on environmental education for hundreds of young people in Central Maryland. Laura Runkle, president of Maryland American Water, emphasized that the investment aims to strengthen the local economy by equipping the next generation with technical confidence. The Foundation, which has invested over $25 million in community projects since 2012, funds these initiatives entirely through American Water shareholders rather than customer rates.
