The update also embeds climate change considerations directly into the primary text and provides a revised Annex A to clarify requirements for small businesses and first-time users.

Leadership now faces heightened expectations regarding organizational ethics and quality culture. According to Dr. Laurie E. Locascio, president and CEO of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), these changes reflect a decade of consensus-building that emphasizes building trust through transparency. American experts played a central role in this process, contributing through the ANSI-accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO Technical Committee 176. While certification remains voluntary, the transition period for organizations to align with the new standard is expected to span three years. Businesses should begin coordinating with accredited certification bodies, such as the ANSI National Accreditation Board, to schedule transition audits before the window closes.
