Drawing on two decades of institutional experience, Kelly Sewell Nagel has been named the Steers Endowed Professor of the Practice in Real Estate at Georgetown University. She will spearhead the expansion of the McDonough School of Business’s real estate vertical, bridge academic theory with industry practice, and mentor the next generation of professionals.

Georgetown Appoints Kelly Sewell Nagel to Lead Real Estate Programs

Nagel arrives at the Steers Center for Global Real Assets with a background that includes managing 5,000 units within Aimco’s East Coast portfolio and developing a national residential platform for the $6.8 billion EDENS portfolio. Beyond her corporate tenure, she currently leads the advisory firm Residy and serves as a trustee for the Urban Land Institute. Her appointment signals a strategic shift for the university as it builds out distinct programs in real estate, infrastructure, and energy.

Matthew Cypher, director of the Steers Center, noted that Nagel’s leadership aligns with the school's objective to cultivate a faculty capable of matching the high standards of the global industry. For Nagel, the move represents a deeper commitment to the classroom. She emphasized that modern students require more than technical proficiency; they must develop the critical judgment necessary to interrogate financial models and understand the broader realities of the built environment. The center plans to continue this growth by adding further full-time faculty to support its evolving real assets curriculum.
