These awards provide essential capital to institutions that finance small businesses, affordable housing, and vital community facilities. According to Pettigrew, the impact of these funds is magnified by the industry's ability to leverage every dollar of public investment into approximately eight dollars of private capital. This multiplier effect remains a cornerstone of the CDFI model, serving rural, urban, and Native communities often overlooked by traditional financial institutions.
While the announcement offers relief, the work is not finished. The Opportunity Finance Network is pushing for clarity on programs omitted from this latest release, specifically the 2026 Bond Guarantee Program and the Capital Magnet Fund. The network continues to monitor developments to ensure its nearly 500 member institutions have the resources necessary to maintain their momentum. Since 1986, the collective efforts of these organizations have resulted in 136 billion dollars in financing, supporting millions of jobs and housing units across the country.
