National Restaurant Association Targets Routine for Food Safety Month

The National Restaurant Association and ServSafe have launched their 2026 National Food Safety Month campaign, shifting focus from static training to ingrained daily habits. Titled "Recipe for Food Safety Success," the initiative provides five weeks of operational bundles designed to integrate rigorous safety protocols into every restaurant shift.

Sherman Brown, executive vice president of Business Services, emphasized that long-term safety relies on consistent education and reinforced expectations rather than periodic reviews. The resources provided for the month include checklists, shift meeting guides, and posters tailored to help managers turn abstract policies into actionable routines for their staff.

The campaign structure breaks down into five weekly focus areas: building a safety-first culture, mastering cleaning and sanitizing procedures, mitigating cross-contamination risks, enforcing personal hygiene standards, and maintaining strict time and temperature controls. Since its inception in 1994, the annual September event has served as a primary vehicle for the association to push for higher industry standards. Restaurant operators can access the complete suite of training materials through the official ServSafe website.
