Sony Debuts First Fisheye Zoom Lens for Alpha E-Mount System

Sony Electronics is expanding its Alpha E-mount lens lineup with the SEL814G, the company’s first dedicated fisheye zoom. Designed for both full-frame photography and cinematography, the lens covers an 8 mm to 14 mm range, transitioning from a circular 180-degree field of view to a full-frame diagonal projection.

The new G Lens features a constant f/3.5 aperture and weighs only 314 grams, targeting a broad range of users from landscape photographers to video production teams. According to Yang Cheng, Vice President of Imaging Solutions at Sony Electronics, the design objective was to provide high-resolution performance across the entire zoom range while maintaining a compact, portable form factor suitable for all-day handheld use.

Technically, the lens utilizes ED glass and aspherical elements to minimize chromatic aberration. Its internal zoom mechanism ensures the center of gravity remains stable, which aids in balance during gimbal-mounted operations. For spatial content creators, the lens can be paired with the VENICE Extension System Mini to mimic human interpupillary distance, facilitating VR production. The lens also includes professional-grade features such as an aperture ring with switchable click stops, a dust- and moisture-resistant exterior, and a fluorine-coated front element. The SEL814G is scheduled to arrive in October 2026 with an MSRP of $1,599.99.
